CANADA’S University of New Brunswick (UNB) yesterday launched its Singapore campus, saying it hoped to enrol up to 800 students in the first year.

The new campus, called UNB College, is a joint venture between the UNB in Fredericton, Canada, and two Singapore private education groups - SIC Education Group and The Stansfield Group.

A press statement yesterday from the university said the local campus will offer UNB’s Bachelor of Business Administration degrees, taking in its first cohort from next January.

The Singapore campus aims to give local students an education comparable to that of its Canadian campus in terms of education system, academic standards and teaching quality.

Lessons will be fully supported by faculty members from the main campus supplemented by local lecturers giving tutorials. Upon graduation, local students will receive degree certificates identical to the ones given at its main campus.

UNB College is operating out of a refurbished school site on Upper Serangoon Road. The campus has been retrofitted and more than $3 million has been invested so far.

Besides classrooms and teaching facilities, the campus also has a reference library and computer laboratories. Landscaping works and a main lecture theatre will be added in the following months.
